5K Walk

5K Walk & Fundraiser in support of Breast Cancer Awareness

On Saturday October 10th, 2020, The Ghanaian Association of Durham (GAD), organized a 5-kilometer Sponsored Walk in support of Safe Haven Cancer Support Society, to raise funds for a cancer support centre in Ghana. The Walk started at 9:30 a.m. at Pickering, Ajax, and Oshawa.

The Pickering event started at 10:00 a.m. with ten members participating in the walk. The walk started from the side street of the Pickering City Townhall, through designated streets and roads in the city of Pickering for about 2 hours. The 5K walk ended back at the City Hall. Participants walked about 7 kilometers instead of the 5 kilometers.

At the end of the walk, the President of the Ghanaian Association of Durham, Mr. John Wesley, thanked the Almighty God for giving them the strength to do the walk to the finish line. He congratulated the participants for the effort and thanked the media for the coverage of the event. He commended Janet Brakohiapa for her vision and passion for organizing the walk in support of the opening of a cancer support Centre in Ghana. Finally, he thanked all the donors and contributors across the communities for their support and all the volunteers who worked behind the scenes to make the event happen.
